Avenir

avenir Poster

For this project, we were given the guidelines to create a unique poster for a typeface of our personal choice. The toughest part of this project was being capable of bringing every aspect of the typeface to light given that we only had one poster to be able to do that. I first focused on the letter forms and their interaction. I went into a process of patterning with the capitalized letter forms and was pleased with how the G’s worked when placed into an almost tile-like pattern. From there, I wanted to play with a bold color to make them stand out, thus utilizing the bright red and blues. Moving from there, I wanted to have enough white space for the poster so that it did not feel overwhelmed thus I laid the creator and the typeface right in the middle and then had the body text describing Avenir a lot smaller since it was not at the forefront of my design and hierarchy.

Avenir Spread

As a second installation to the project just discussed, we were given the guidelines to create a 12-16 page spread for the typeface where we were able to go into further detailing about the unique variations of our font and how it stood out compared to the rest. The spread I chose to include was the glyph and weight pages since it reflected my take on the typeface and the fluidity from the poster to the spread with the continuation of the same style. I decided to keep the red and blue color palette and utilized changing the opacity on the glyph page and created a pattern like design exemplifying many of them that you would most commonly use. For the weight page I kept it consistent with the G’s seen on the poster from the first iteration of the project, and then went from the top down starting from lightest all the way to heaviest showing that Avenir has incredibly great versatility.
